Using the Negative spaces as an object.

 

The minimal artists used to use it in their works. Engaging the audiences is one important issue in minimal artworks. By this point of view, my project is related to minimal style.

Looking at the spaces between the forms not only as a background but a medium for communicating the ideas is a way to expand the work effect to out of define .by using this opportunity, not only the two dimension paper but also audience mind becomes a part of work. Since the work completes in his mind.

For me, the design prose’s is not start by putting some shape on a plane paper. but sometimes I design this hidden area and shape it by visible forms. We

may find same experience in architecture, that architect not designs the frame

or form but space.arcitecturue in my viewpoint is not the forms that are designed and drawn but the spaces between designs. We live between the architect lines .actually the architecture without free spaces is not architecture.

 A good typographer always has sensitivity about the distance between the letters as well. Some designer think typography is black and white. but Typography is really white and is not even black. It is the space between the blacks that really makes typefaces. As silence in dialog dos. In my point of view without this silence we can not speake not at all so the most important part of speak is silence

In a sense it is like music. It is not the notes, but it is the space between the notes that makes the music.

 

 

Up to invisible become visible.  from one of Rumi poems. Here, the negative specs are an important part of work, until by omitting this unused area, all the work will be destroyed.

in this work method, form of the work and context, are in same meaning, The question is if the meaning of this work was something else could I use same technique?

The relation between form and context is one part of design process. And here I want to mention some experiences by this method in other context also…

 

 

It is a logo for a consultant-engineering firm. This monogram by letter “T” intimates a home. The home shape is made not only by lines but by the spaces around it. Using the negative spaces as a purpose is able to be seen.

The idea of poster is based on the motion between the frames. as Using sequences to make motion in cinema. I used it for the poster for homage to Abbas Kiarostami a Persian cinema director. This poster completes in audiences mind and not in paper, so. The audience mind is part of the work and the time with is  between the frames are an important point in reading and understanding the idea of poster

 

Sometimes this vast amount of empty spaces makes a shock. For me catching the attention of audience is important in poster design. As long as I have not so much forms or details in my posters using shinning colors like red and yellow or these huge spaces which has surrounded the forms work well.

What is my project title?

Minimalism aspects in graphic design, a solution for better communication with all.

Synopsis of my project and the outline of my idea, aims, objectives, process and outcome:

In the contemporary world, the importance of image is more than previous days. As we take part into this global village which exists because of electronically revolution and digital facilities, existence of an understandable language by every body which does not depends on any kind of race, age or literacy is more necessary than before, and in my idea the best solution is using image. Image is the common language of mankind. As today among all kinds of art, visual art is the most practical way to exchange the meaning and messages all around the glob that is why through pictures we can put a vast amount of information and transfer it to the observers in no time.

In this way, in graphic design we have two distinct methods: narrative and non-narrative pictures.

In narrative works designer uses a medium to transfer his meanings or through it. In this way, we have a metaphor of real issue. Many times this metaphor based on local culture and literacy. we have brilliant examples in polish style posters, although finding the real meanings is enjoyable but usually takes time.

The Switzerland style designers give a non-narrative expression of the subject through the mental translation of the concept into form and the relations of form within the poster. The image concept is directly transmitted through the forms and colors; there is no anecdote in the poster trying to implicate something else. Although in this way we do not need any explanation on work, but most of the time basic visual knowledge of audiences is needed for engaging in. 

If we make a link between these two methods, can find a way to translate the meanings the forms for all kind of audiences. Maybe by finding international narration. I think this solution comes after recognition of Minimalism movement thought. Minimalism movement in art has started of painting since the middle of 20th century, but because of its basis and natural inner character, minimalism changes its way towards minimalist sculpture or its better to say minimal objects. In this case, inspection in this movement of graphics seems a little difficult but we can consider general origins of minimalism and compare it with medium of graphics.

By considering minimalism figures in art and finding the facet of it in graphic design. in the meanwhile , by view point of Form and Content.

It is good to think on what essential points of graphic works are. How we can subtract the unnecessary objects? What is position of content in posters and other graphic outcomes? To have better communication, are we able to find new aspects of minimalism in contemporary graphic design?
